Language Arts

We will be introducing and using the Spelling Sound Cards this year.  They will help you child to read, spell, and write words.  We also have many interesting units in reading to help your child learn new concepts and meet first grade standards for language arts. 

Math

This year some of the standards to be met are addition and subtraction facts to twenty. Other areas include patterns, time on the hour and half hour, counting by ones, twos, fives, and tens, to 100, which includes one more and one less, ten more and ten less, solid shapes an their attributes, and problem solving.

Social Science

Many units in our reading also relate to social science.  We will learn about neighborhoods and community workers.  Continents, oceans of the world mapping skills, and the differences in countries in how people travel and live.
